The 2025 Women’s NCAA Tournament has moved into the Elite Eight, with all four No. 1 seeds needing just one more victory to reach next weekend’s Final Four. South Carolina and UCLA are the No. 1 seeds hitting the court Sunday, and they’ve had decidedly different paths in this March Madness.
The Gamecocks didn’t have the offensive firepower to ever truly put away Indiana and Maryland, with MiLaysia Fulwiley playing hero in the latter win by scoring a team-high 23 points in only 21 minutes. Still, South Carolina is the reigning national champion for a reason, and Dawn Staley has made a habit out of proving those who doubt her team wrong.Â
Duke has had a less-than-stellar path to the Elite Eight itself. The Blue Devils narrowly escaped an upset bid from Deja Kelly and Oregon in Round 2, then beat North Carolina in a Sweet 16 matchup in which neither team could consistently hit shots. Perhaps Kara Lawson’s team will get more out of ACC Rookie of the Year Toby Fournier, who missed the Oregon game with an illness and showed some rust in a three-point performance against the rival Tar Heels.Â
It’s never flashy for UCLA, yet the Bruins just keep notching double-digit wins in their quest to reach their first Final Four in program history. Lauren Betts has been sensational, scoring a combined 61 points on 29 of 33 from the field in wins over Richmond and Ole Miss.
LSU, meanwhile, outlasted NC State in a fantastic Sweet 16 matchup, and the 2023 national champions are hungry to cut the nets once again under Kim Mulkey. Flau’jae Johnson is slated to play vs. UCLA after dealing with an eye issue down the stretch against the Wolfpack.Â
Two cities — Birmingham, Ala., and Spokane, Wash. — will host this year’s Sweet 16 and Elite Eight before the remaining teams head to Florida for the Final Four and national championship game in Tampa, Fla.
Below is all the information you’ll need to keep up with the action. Be sure to check back in on this page as it will be updated with matchups and tip times over the next three weeks.
