Three people are dead after a gunman opened fire outside a Target in Austin, according to authorities.
The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to reports of a shooting at the store on Research Blvd. around 2:15 p.m.
Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and the third died after being transported to a local hospital.
The suspect stole a vehicle from the parking lot and fled the scene. He then wrecked the car and then stole another vehicle, a Volkswagen, and continued to flee, the police chief said.
The alleged gunman was later found in South Austin, where he was tasered by officers and taken into custody.
The unidentified suspect is a 32-year-old white male. A preliminary investigation shows the alleged gunman has a mental health history. The police chief also said the suspect has a criminal record as well as emergency detention holds, but declined to release any further details.
Authorities are examining surveillance footage to investigate what led up to the shooting.
Detectives have closed off the crime scene, and it remains an active investigation as of Monday afternoon. Customers whose vehicles are parked in the lot where the shooting occurred are prohibited from taking their vehicles from the scene.
A motive for the shooting remains unknown.
