Emirates Airline has further strengthened its foothold in China with the launch of a new daily flight service to Shenzhen (SZX), marking its fourth gateway in the mainland. The inaugural flight, EK328, arrived in Shenzhen on July 1, connecting the city with Dubai (DXB) and reinforcing Emirates’ growing East Asia strategy. This new addition is expected to foster increased travel and enhance trade relations between the UAE and China, linking two key economic hubs.
Strategic Role of Shenzhen for Emirates’ Network Expansion
Shenzhen, recognized as a center for technological innovation and industrial development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, now has direct access to Emirates’ global network. The new route expands the airline’s reach in China, complementing its services to other major cities like Beijing (PEK), Shanghai (PVG), and Guangzhou (CAN). With 42 weekly flights to these four cities, Emirates meets the growing demand for business and leisure travel while bolstering trade between China and the UAE.
The new Shenzhen route not only highlights Emirates’ role in strengthening global market connections but also serves as a vital link between the UAE and China, reinforcing their growing bilateral ties.
Premium Travel Experience Aboard Emirates’ Retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER
Passengers flying to Shenzhen will travel on Emirates’ newly retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, offering an upgraded and luxurious travel experience. The aircraft is configured with 8 private First Class suites, 40 Business Class lie-flat seats, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 260 Economy Class seats, ensuring comfort and convenience across all classes. Shenzhen becomes the first city in China to receive the retrofitted aircraft, which reflects Emirates’ investment in delivering a world-class customer experience in this critical market.
The flight schedule is designed to optimize connectivity to key cities in Europe, including London (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA), Paris (CDG), and Amsterdam (AMS), along with destinations in the Middle East and Africa. EK329, the return flight, departs Shenzhen at 23:55 hrs and lands in Dubai at 03:40 hrs the following morning, ensuring smooth and efficient connections for travelers.
Cargo Capacity Enhancements: Boosting Trade and Logistics
The new Shenzhen route also offers significant cargo capacity, with each flight providing up to 16 tonnes of cargo capacity. This service is crucial for Shenzhen’s thriving industries, including biopharma, smart manufacturing, and e-commerce. Emirates SkyCargo’s global network ensures the efficient movement of goods, including perishable items and pharmaceuticals, thanks to its specialized cold chain logistics. The route strengthens the “Aerial Silk Road,” facilitating the rapid movement of high-demand products between China and international markets.
Fostering Stronger UAE-China Bilateral Ties
This new flight further deepens the already strong bilateral ties between the UAE and China. As China’s largest trading partner in the Middle East, the UAE plays a pivotal role in the growing trade between the two nations, which reached US$95 billion in 2023. Emirates’ expansion into Shenzhen supports the increased cooperation between the two countries in sectors such as logistics, technology, and investment.
Moreover, the introduction of visa-free entry for up to 30 days for travelers from the UAE and other GCC countries facilitates easier business and leisure travel between the nations, further enhancing bilateral relations.
Expanding Fleet and Connectivity Across Global Markets
Emirates continues to expand and modernize its fleet to meet growing demand across its global network. The airline is deploying more retrofitted Boeing 777s and Airbus A380s to several high-demand destinations, including Shanghai, Zurich, Milan, Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires. As of October 26, Emirates will increase service frequencies to Milan and Rio de Janeiro, while introducing the Airbus A380 on select routes, including Shanghai and Singapore.
The retrofitted aircraft feature Emirates’ latest cabin products across all classes, including an expanded Premium Economy section, designed to offer passengers a superior flying experience. The increased capacity on these routes reflects Emirates’ commitment to meeting the surging demand for premium travel and continuing its investment in fleet upgrades.
Commitment to Excellence and Growth
Emirates’ new daily service to Shenzhen underscores the airline’s ongoing commitment to growth and excellence in East Asia. With its modernized fleet, expanded global network, and continued investment in customer experience, Emirates is well-positioned to meet the needs of both leisure and business travelers. The airline’s strategic expansion ensures that passengers enjoy an unparalleled travel experience with added convenience, reliability, and service quality.
As the airline continues to navigate a dynamic aviation landscape, Emirates remains dedicated to maintaining its leadership in global aviation, offering seamless connectivity, and fostering stronger relationships between the UAE and China.
