Millions of HydroTech Water Hoses Recalled After Hoses Burst, Injuries Reported

Around 3.6 million expandable HydroTech water hoses have been recalled after hundreds burst unexpectedly, leaving at least 29 people injured.

Injuries reported include at least five cases of temporarily impaired hearing, as well as sprains and a bone bruise.

Winston Products, based in Glenwillow, Ohio, announced the voluntary recall in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The hoses were manufactured in Cambodia, China, and Vietnam.

The affected products are the 5/8-inch HydroTech Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses manufactured on or before Aug. 31, 2024. They were sold in a variety of lengths and colors at major retailers like Walmart, Home Depot, Amazon, Target, Ace Hardware, and other stores nationwide and online between January 2021 and April 2025. The hoses cost between $20 and $136.

The company has received at least 222 reports of hoses suddenly rupturing during use. In some cases, the strain relief near the regulator breaks off, which causes a loud burst that can pose an impact hazard, cause hearing damage, or result in other injuries.

“The recalled hoses can burst, posing an impact hazard and a risk of temporarily impaired hearing if the strain relief breaks,” the company stated on its recall website. “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hoses.”

The hoses were marketed as “burst-proof” and sold in 25, 50, 60, 75, 100, and 200-foot lengths. The gray 60-foot version was also included in an “Auto Care” kit with tire glides.

Hoses with date codes ending in -211 all the way through -243, or manufactured on or before Aug. 31, 2024, are included in the recall. “On some hose packages, the manufacture date is listed in the month-year format. For example, 0824 is August 2024 and is included in this recall,” the recall states.

The date code is printed near the end of the hose that attaches to the spigot and is visible after removing the black rubber washer.

Customers who purchased the hoses from Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Do It Best, or Walmart should return them to the store for a full refund. Customers who bought them elsewhere can submit a photo of the cut regulator-end of the hose with their initials and date written in permanent marker to Winston Products’ recall page at hydrotechproducts.com/recall.

For more information, consumers can also call Winston Products toll-free at 888-412-2396 on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET or email [email protected].

The CPSC recall number is 25-394.
