Experts Warn More Regulations Needed Before Marijuana Reclassification

President Trump signed an executive order to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug. The order moves the classification from a Class I to a Class III substance, which creates a separation from Class 1 Drugs such as Heroin, expands medical research, and creates better and more consistent regulations for public safety on products such as CBD ointments. The order does not seek to legalize marijuana for recreational use, and Trump made several comments warning of the dangers of using both Marijuana and alcohol.

NTD discussed the Executive Order with Gerard Filitti, Senior Counsel with The Lawfare Project, and Paul J. Larkin, Senior Legal Research Fellow with The Heritage Foundation.
