The Baywatch franchise has been a mainstay in pop culture for nearly 40 years, although the iconic red swimsuits and the lifeguards attached to them have not been showcased in about a decade. That is about to change in early 2027 with the release of the upcoming Baywatch series, which will reboot the original series and tell a new story set after original star David Hasselhoff’s run on the beach. This time, Stephen Amell (known for his work as Oliver Queen in the Arrowverse) will take Hasselhoff’s place as Hobie Buchanan, the adult son of Hasselhoff’s Mitch Buchanan, as he continues his father’s legacy in Los Angeles, California.
Featuring a cast full of modern-day influencers next to Amell (including Brooks Nader, Noah Beck, and Livvy Dunne), the Baywatch revival will center on Amell’s Hobie reuniting with his daughter (Jessica Belkin’s Charlie), who wants to follow in his footsteps with Baywatch. Featuring iconic Los Angeles beach scenery, Fox teases epic rescues and beach action across the series’ 12-episode slate, although there are still plenty of questions left to answer about the greater story and the rest of the cast. While the wait continues for a first full look at Baywatch, Amell recently shared a small taste of what to expect.
Baywatch star Stephen Amell shared the first official teaser for the new series on Instagram, with the caption “I dream in slow motion.” While the teaser is only 10 seconds long, it offers a first look at a few of the show’s biggest stars, concluding with Amell’s Hobie Buchanan running out towards the beach in his red swim trunks. Other shots featured the first official scenes for supporting cast members Brooks Nader, Jessica Belkin, and Livvy Dunne, all wearing their red one-piece swimsuits. The trailer concluded with the series’ official title card and a January release timeframe, but it did not offer a specific release date.
Along with a host of newcomers, the 2027 Baywatch reboot will bring a couple of key players back from its 1990s predecessor — David Chokachi as Cody Madison and Erika Eleniak as Shauni McClain. With over eight months until the series begins airing on Fox, the network has plenty of new promotional material to share online after this initial announcement from Amell. Considering the initial teaser included no lines of dialogue and no new information on any of the main characters, the network will slowly start to give viewers new teases over the coming weeks and months, putting Baywatch back into the spotlight for the first time since the 2017 R-rated movie that flopped hard in theaters.
Baywatch will begin airing on Fox in late January 2027.
