Earlier this year, Amazon unleashed an all-new action thriller that quickly became a streaming hit. Mixing movies like Rambo and John Wick together to create an explosive and bloody revenge flick, the film shot up the charts. Now, four months after its premiere, it’s still one that people can’t get enough of on streaming.
Money Changes Everything in Prime Video’s Action Thriller Smash
Hitting Prime Video back in April, Vengeance wastes no time getting started. Clocking in at a lean 1hr and 43 minutes, the story focuses on Carlos Estrada (Omar Chaparro), a man whose life is turned upside down when his wife is brutally murdered. However, Carlos is no ordinary civilian. He’s a former Mexican Special Forces captain who knows exactly how to hunt people down and kill them. The only problem is he doesn’t have the resources for sweet revenge… yet.
In a brilliant stroke of luck, Carlos finds himself coming into some money. Lots of money. Now blessed with the fortune of John Wick, he uses his newly acquired arsenal of weapons and his special set of skills à la John Rambo to take down every single person responsible for his wife’s murder. Along the way, he uncovers a web of military corruption and organized crime that tests both his combat training and his humanity, which adds an extra layer to Vengeance to keep you engaged.
Directed by Rodrigo Valdés, Vengeance is a violent and brutal action affair that moves at break-neck speed. Called everything from a “solid piece of Spanish action cinema” to “a masterpiece full of excitement from the start” by users on Letterboxd, it might not reinvent the genre, but its uncomplicated plot makes it an easy-to-follow thrill ride that delivers everything it promises. With a high body count, hand-to-hand combat, and a plethora of gun battles, it’s an action lover’s dream come true, so it’s no wonder it’s remained a streaming hit for as long as it has.
‘Vengeance’ Continues to Succeed on Prime Video
Released on April 17, 2026, on Prime Video after a brief theatrical run in Mexico, Vengeance has more than proven itself a vigilante force on streaming. It’s consistently appeared on Amazon’s global charts, and this week is no exception.
Per Amazon News, Vengeance ranked eighth on the list of Top 10 non-English Prime Original films for the week of August 3–9, which is pretty impressive when you consider it’s been out for four months. Its staying power on the charts is proof positive that many can’t get enough of the action smash, and have most likely watched it more than once since its debut. Thus far, a sequel to Vengeance has yet to be confirmed, but there’s certainly room for it to grow should it become a full-blown franchise, with Estrada taking on even bigger threats in possible follow-ups.
