Forget ‘Lioness,’ Prime Video’s Better Military Thriller Returns Next Month

Season 3 of Lioness will end on Sept. 20, 2026. This is sad news for those who enjoy military action thriller shows, since the television industry has been lacking such shows lately. So, when the Lioness team puts down its guns after the season finale, no one is going to be bored. Taylor Sheridan earned plenty of admirers by creating Lioness, but something better is coming. Season 2 of Prime Video’s The Terminal List will premiere on October 21, 2026.

Since Season 1 of The Terminal List came out in 2022, many have probably gone gray waiting for the next batch of episodes. The spin-off, The Terminal List: The Dark Wolf, was released in 2025, but it never fully quenched the thirst that many had for the original show. Thankfully, Chris Pratt’s Lieutenant Commander James Reece will be back on our TV screens soon.

‘The Terminal List’ Season 2 Will Follow Prime Video’s Usual Binge-Worthy Release Schedule

Like Season 1, all episodes of The Terminal List’s Season 2 will be available to watch on the same day globally. Despite criticism, Prime Video has followed this strategy for dozens of its TV shows, preferring it over the weekly drop style that many other streaming services have embraced. Some have argued that a series like Spider-Noir, which was recently canceled, would have been more successful if new episodes had dropped weekly.

Those who believe that aren’t entirely wrong. Look how big Lanterns has become for HBO Max. Reacher has been released weekly, and it has also become one of the world’s most popular shows. The Boys didn’t follow a weekly release schedule, either, so those who watch The Terminal List might wonder why their favorite series is being subjected to what seems like non-VIP treatment. On the brighter side, we all should be grateful that a new chapter is almost here. There was a time when everyone wondered whether the action thriller would continue at all.

Season 2 will adapt True Believer, the second book in Jack Carr’s five-novel series about the avenging, conspiracy-destroying Navy SEAL hero James Reece. Series creator David DiGilio is taking the same approach as Reacher, adapting one book for each season. If all goes well, the series could continue until Season 5. The upcoming batch of episodes will follow Reece after he comes out of hiding to save the day, prompted by a series of terrorist attacks targeting the United Kingdom, Russia, and America.

Along with the core cast that includes Chris Pratt, Tom Hopper, Constance Wu, Dar Salim, and Luke Hemsworth, Season 2 has several cast members guaranteed to add a lot of spice to the proceedings. Gabriel Luna (The Last of Us) plays CIA officer Freddy Strain, while Martin Sensmeier (Yellowstone) will appear as Sergeant Major Otaktay.

Lioness stars Zoe Saldaña as Joe McNamara, a senior case officer leading a CIA special operations unit known as Lioness. While Saldaña has had an incredible career, she’s perhaps best known for playing Guardians of the Galaxy member Gamora in the MCU. The role made her one of the world’s most bankable stars. Chris Pratt has also worked a lot thanks to Kevin Feige. Even better, he has co-starred with Saldaña multiple times as Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Lioness and The Terminal List are connected in multiple ways. They aren’t just TV shows featuring competent military-trained protagonists. They have a behind-the-scenes bond. Both actors arguably do their best work in their respective military thrillers. Saldaña should recreate her Colombiana days, too. She’s better than most action stars currently working in Tinseltown.

The Terminal List is better than Lioness by a small margin. While it still features genre tropes, it has many twists that are hard to beat. I’ll give a proper verdict in October, as I can only really compare the quality of both shows once they have an equal number of seasons. Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan continues to do a great job with Lioness. He is known for stories that are masterclasses in the dusty, taciturn Western style — with heavy gusts of wind doing more of the talking — and he created something truly unique by going in the special-ops direction.
