A weather expert has revealed when the UK is set for snow for the first time this autumn. After a series of heatwaves and warm summer that doesn’t seem to end, it seems that colder weather isn’t on the cards for another two weeks.
Jim Dale, founder and senior meteorological consultant at British Weather Services (BWS), said temperatures will not plunge to 5C or below until later next month. He told The Express: “Nothing of any note that I can see this side of mid-October. Quite the reverse at times. I would think mid-October onwards for parts of Scotland – dipping in and out.”
“Warmth in and out until mid-October, in my opinion.”
And yet, some snow is on the way for parts of the country. Mr Dale said: “The first place to see snow always will be the mountain tops of Scotland. I have one set of charts that suggest October 12 for a bit of that.
“Even if we got a flutter further south, it wouldn’t last. Land and ocean temperatures are too high.
“Look to November, unless we see a freak event, and even then don’t expect the south to be involved. Snow in November has become an uncommon event.”
In its separate long-range forecast for October 12-26, the Met Office says: “High pressure and more settled conditions early in the period may give way to a more changeable pattern towards mid-October.
“This will bring a greater chance of wet and windy conditions at times, but there will still be periods of drier and more settled weather.
“Temperatures are likely be above average for the period as a whole.”
