Two people have been rushed to hospital after a shooting near the O2 Academy Islington, leaving one with life-changing injuries. Police officers were called to Parkfield Street at 10.25pm on Tuesday (October 27) following a shooting. Cordons were established along Liverpool Road, covering an area near several retail outlets and extending towards the entrance of Angel Central as officers carried out their investigation. The Metropolitan Police said two men, aged 33 and 27, were found suffering from gunshot wounds when emergency services arrived at the scene. Both were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
However, the 33-year-old victim has been left with life-changing injuries. No arrests have been made, and an investigation is under way. The Met said “extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident”.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the area, said: “This was an incredibly reckless incident in a busy area close to a major venue and no doubt caused significant fear among members of the public. Violence has no place in our communities, and we are pursuing every available line of enquiry to identify those involved.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and anyone with concerns is urged to speak to officers.
“The Angel Centre remains closed as we conduct enquiries at the scene. We recognise the impact this is having, and we are grateful for the understanding and cooperation of the community. We are working with our partners to reopen the venue as soon as possible.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We treated two patients at the scene and took them both to hospital.”
Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is urged to contact 101, quoting CAD 7386/27OCT, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
