Murray, who has 46 titles to his name as well as two Olympic gold medals, will be the new face of the 127-year-old company.

Fans were treated to a brilliant formal introduction by Walkers which included a close-up of Murray’s face in a cinematic black and white video.

As the camera slowly pans further away from the star, Murray is seen slowly putting a piece of shortbread in his mouth before taking a bite all while keeping his eyes locked firmly on the lens.

The addition of some rather revealing music accompanied Murray’s bite as did some short narration which said: “An icon, a piece of history. A Scottish institution loved the world over. Popular with mum’s, great with a cuppa.”

Walker’s had confirmed last month they had signed a multi-year partnership with Murray as a celebration of Scotland at its finest, with a shared sense of national heritage and pride.

The two parties have aligned through a shared experience of starting off in a small Scottish town before hard work and dedication propelled them to the very top of the craft.

The collaboration marks a huge investment for the company who will use the tagline of ‘A Wee Bit of Scotland that’s Come a Long Way.’

Murray, who most recently coached former on-court rival Novak Djokovic, admitted his delight at being able to represent the brand.

“I am proudly Scottish, and partnering with Walker’s, a brand that has been representing Scotland around the world for well over a century, felt like a great fit for me,” he said.

“I come from a small tight-knit community and when I look back at where I have come from, I am proud of what I’ve achieved, which is something I share with Walker’s.

“It’s a real honour to be part of this next chapter for such a well-loved Scottish brand,” noted the now retired player, who admitted to being a shortbread superfan.

“I’ve been eating shortbread since I was a kid – my gran would make it all the time for us. We even celebrated my Wimbledon win with shortbread.

“Shortbread is one of my simple pleasures. No matter where I am in the world, a piece of Walker’s Shortbread always transports me back home.”

Nicky Walker, managing director of Walker’s Shortbread says the alliance is likely to help further the brand’s global presence in promoting Scotland’s exports.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Andy Murray as our very first brand ambassador,” Walker said.

“We’ve always admired Andy’s achievements, his dedication and his cautious charisma as well as his very obvious close relationship with his own family.
