As winter settles in, the Xinjin district in Chengdu, Sichuan province, has launched a series of vibrant cultural tourism experiences that are drawing in both locals and visitors. The district’s Huawu Renjian Scenic Area is currently hosting the 2024 Chengdu Giant Corn Art Festival, an extraordinary celebration of creativity and nature.
The festival features a stunning “Fantastic Art Kingdom” crafted by dozens of land artists from across China. Using nearly 200,000 corns and reeds sourced from Sichuan, the artists have brought to life a series of awe-inspiring installations, with themes that span from animals and forests to oceans and cultural motifs. This unique display not only celebrates the region’s abundant corn harvest but also raises awareness about animal protection and the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the captivating world of art, with attractions such as the charming little deer, an indoor ice and snow wonderland, and a flower-viewing carousel. These interactive elements offer an enchanting experience, especially under the warm winter sunshine and surrounded by the buzz of enthusiastic tourists.
Wang Kun, the marketing director of the Huawu Renjian Scenic Area, shared that the festival goes beyond just visual art. In addition to the spectacular installations, the scenic area features four interactive projects: the Corn Graffiti Pavilion, Corn Porters, Corn Rings, and Corn Science Popularization. These activities are designed to offer an engaging, hands-on experience of this year’s corn art festival, immersing visitors in its playful yet educational atmosphere.
The festival runs until December 15, giving tourists and residents ample opportunity to enjoy the scenic area, where vibrant flowers bloom even in the winter chill. The event provides an authentic glimpse into the seasonal charm of Xinjin, making it a must-see destination this winter.
Meanwhile, the Baihetan National Wetland Park is also drawing attention with its newly opened amusement park, ideal for families with young children. The park is equipped with a variety of recreational facilities, including sandpits, climbing frames, swings, slides, and seesaws, offering a perfect environment for kids to play and explore.
In addition to these cultural and recreational experiences, Xinjin’s government is gearing up for a series of “Fun Winter” activities, set to captivate even more visitors. From the bright fields of rapeseed flowers to a lantern show, rural music festival, food fair, New Year’s Eve banquet, and lantern riddle guessing games, there’s no shortage of ways to immerse yourself in the warmth and vitality of Xinjin this winter.
This exciting lineup of cultural events and activities truly showcases Xinjin as a vibrant winter destination, blending natural beauty, art, and community spirit into a memorable experience for all.
