A 19-year-old college student in Colorado is facing felony charges in connection with an alleged plot to murder a fellow student, authorities said.
According to the Fort Lewis College Police Department, officials launched an investigation on Jan. 28 after campus police received reports about a potential threat involving a firearm and the alleged solicitation of murder of another student.
During their investigation, authorities uncovered evidence suggesting Keller allegedly tried to hire “two separate parties” to commit the murder of an unnamed student in exchange for money.
He faces felony charges of criminal solicitation for first-degree murder, homicide, and unlawful possession of a weapon on college grounds.
The CBI and the Fort Lewis College Police Department said there was no ongoing threat to the campus in relation to the incident.
“All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” authorities said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
The campus police department said officials could not comment further on the case because the investigation remained ongoing. NTD reached out to the college for additional information, but a response was not received by publication time.
However, a spokesperson for the liberal arts school told CBS News that the safety of students, faculty, and staff “is a top priority” at the college.
“FLC’s prompt response demonstrates the strength of our campus safety protocols and partnerships. We remain committed to transparency, due process, and providing a safe learning environment for our community.”
