Florida CEO Davide Veglia Killed in Miami Boat Hit-and-Run, Teenage Son Injured

A South Florida father and business founder was killed, and his teenage son was injured, in a hit-and-run boat crash in Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida on March 25. Investigators continue to search for a vessel that fled the scene.

Davide Veglia, 55, and his 14-year-old son were on a seven-foot inflatable dinghy Wednesday night when they were struck by another vessel that did not stop, according to WPLG Local 10. Investigators are asking the public to provide tips, photos, or videos that could help identify the vessel or its operator.

In a televised interview, Officer George Reynaud with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said investigators hope anyone who saw the crash, has information, or has video footage from that night will come forward.

The suspect vessel was last seen 7:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Wednesday heading northbound from the Meloy Channel near Normandy Shores. Authorities described it as a dark blue boat, about 20 to 30 feet long, with a black bottom, and possible multiple outboard motors. Investigators have also released images of a boat they believe may be connected to the crash.

Veglia’s company, ABTS Convention Services, confirmed his death in statements posted on social media and the company’s website.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our founder, Davide Veglia,” the company said in a Facebook post. “Those who worked with Davide knew his energy, his loyalty, and his pride in every relationship he built. He made people feel like they mattered, because to him, they did. Our hearts are with his family.”

Business Founder Identified Need to Support Traveling Physicians

In a separate statement published on its website, the company said Veglia founded ABTS in 1995 while a 25-year-old international travel and tourism student in South Florida. The company said he identified a need to support international physicians traveling to the U.S. to attend medical meetings.

“Over 31 years, the company grew into a global partner for medical associations, serving dozens of the largest U.S. medical meetings and supporting hundreds of thousands of international attendees,” ABTS said.

In televised interviews reported by local media, a friend described him as the best friend.

Veglia is survived by his family, ABTS said.

No suspect has been identified as of Friday, and the investigation remains ongoing. FWC officers asked anyone who witnessed the accident, or who may have video footage or information, to call the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922).

NTD reached out to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for comment.
