Friday horse racing tips
- ASCOT
3.30: Military Cross 5/2 (1pt)
4.05: Many Men 11/2 each-way (1pt) - HEXHAM
3.20: Double Digits 15/8 (1.5pts) - FONTWELL
4.13: Southoftheborder 13/2 each-way (1pt)
Military Cross
It’s a three-pronged attack from Godolphin in this one with Race To The Stars and Aegean Prince from Charlie Appleby’s yard and Military Cross trained by John & Thady Gosden.
Oisin Murphy takes the mount on board Aegean Prince while William Buick has Race To The Stars, who both carry a 6lb penalty for winning last time out.
The Gosdens also send out Marnier and all four make up the front four, top contenders in the market.
Port Of London beat Military Cross by a small margin at Kempton going one better than when beaten comfortably in the end by Race To The Stars at Southwell earlier on in September.
The form ties fairly close together, yet Military Cross gets a 6lb advantage which suggests he’s got what it takes to stay again, especially if hitting the front a little earlier on.
It also looks like Military Cross should like Ascot – as all are making their turf debut, and should cope with the straight well.
Many Men
Beaten by a nose to Tarriance last time out which has warranted a 7lb rise in the weights from the handicapper.
That winner went on to race in the Group 1 St Leger at Doncaster and is now on a mark of 105 so that rise for this horse doesn’t seem so high.
He’s incredibly progressive this season and is yet to reach his top mark over this kind of distance.
Oisin Murphy on board is also a big plus as the jockey has been riding incredibly well.
The main issue is he’s rated well below the likes of Push The Limit and Arabian Force who head the market.
Both however are stepping up in trip so it keeps an each-way play on Many Men a solid bet.
Double Digits
Seemed to get the hang of things in his last three runs, going much better than his 22/1 odds at Newcastle in March.
Then winning his next two as the odds-on favourite in encouraging fashion.
Both wins have only seen a 4lb rise coming into this but I think there’s more to come from him here on return from a break.
Southoftheborder
Unexposed over fences and ran well on chase debut back in January for Nicky Henderson to suggest there’s more to come from him off this mark on his second attempt.
Makes his first run for trainer Henrietta Knight after changing hands in September.
This horse was a novice Grade 2 runner (favourite for that too) before being beaten as the 30/100f at Sandown in January 2024.
Took nearly a year off before returning over fences and then had over nine months off before making another return, promising.
