Friday horse racing tips
YORK
- 1.50: French Duke 9/2 (1pt)
- 2.25: Trawlerman 4/5 (2pts)
- 3.00: Do Or Do Not 2/1 (1.5pts)
- 3.35: Lady Iman 6/1 (1pt)
French Duke
A horse out of form a touch this season compared to what he showed at the end of last year.
James Doyle on board again for Wathnan Racing, he should be able to bounce back with a drop of a couple of lbs, plus receiving more weight from reappearing rivals Mount Atlas and Naqeeb.
This horse is still well-backed despite his recent form.
There’s still lots of potential here with this horse, his win at Goodwood in July 2024 shows that and subsequent 2nd place at Ascot in September.
He was gelded after that but has yet to show that’s made a positive impact.
But he was only a couple of lengths off of Mount Atlas at Ascot in June, who has been upped 5lb for the win at the same course in July and could surprise a few here.
Trawlerman
William Buick on board another John & Thady Gosden trained horse, owned by Godolphin and there’s a strong chance for this course winner.
He’s now rated 121 ahead of Sweet William (115) after winning two big races, the Group 3 Henry II Stakes by a staggering five lengths and then upped that form with a seventh length victory over Illinois over 2m4f at Royal Ascot’s Gold Cup.
The favourite has now won eight from 18 races on the turf and he looks better than ever at seven-years-old.
He may have it tough against Sweet William and he may even drift in the odds a little, but he’s got the stamina.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they opted to be the pacemaker and make it tougher for a few of his rivals.
Do Or Do Not
Yet to win but has placed incredibly well behind some top-rated horses including Gstaad and then Zavareti in his last two runs, including last time out at Goodwood when upped to 7f for the first time.
Back down to 6f today but has great form including being ahead of the likes of Maximized and proven at this level three times.
He placed behind Morris Dancer last time out too which has worked out well.
This should finally be his time to get his head in front, he’s even rated well ahead of his rivals today.
Lady Iman
Top filly who’s getting a tonne of weight from her rivals today as not only a filly but a two-year-old.
She was comfortable in winning last time out when dropped back to 5f at Goodwood Festival.
Winning the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes incredibly well as the favourite with Ryan Moore on board.
She does face a tough task up against these older horses but is carrying just 8-2 – 1st8lb lower than three-year-lld Sayidah Dariyan, so she stands a great chance for trainer G M Lyons.
Jm Jungle the top-rated horse has to carry nearly 2st more so it will be interesting to see how these horses manage this weight difference.
