They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes because you may end up being disappointed. This is exactly what happened to Halloween franchise actresses Danielle Harris and Scout Taylor-Compton when they met Jamie Lee Curtis two years ago at the premiere of Halloween Ends. In a post-script to the unfortunate encounter, the pair revealed that Curtis finally reached out to make things right.
The pair have their own Halloween history, with a young Harris starring in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. She also showed up in Rob Zombie’s 2007 remake alongside Taylor-Compton, who went on to appear in the 2009 sequel. Due to their shared history, Harris and Compton were looking forward to meeting Curtis, but what they detailed was anything but joyous. Now, two years later, Harris and Taylor-Compton have revealed that Curtis reached out to them individually and all might be good in the land of Haddonfield.
During an episode of their Talk Scary To Me podcast, Harris and Compton were joined by Harris’ Halloween 4 co-star, Ellie Cornell, who portrayed Rachel Carruthers in the fan-favorite sequel and its follow-up. During the chat, Cornell asked if Harris had ever met Curtis and that’s when they detailed the events of two years ago before going into the latest development: that the Oscar-winning actress reached out to them with the help of her daughter, who was aware of the situation that occurred at the Halloween Ends premiere.
According to Harris, after hearing how upset they were when they talked about the encounter on their podcast, Curtis reached out a few weeks after the premiere because her daughter heard the show and wanted her to clear the air. The actress sent them both direct messages and made it clear that she wasn’t trying to disrespect them by dismissing them, and that she had made it clear in the past that she doesn’t watch scary movies, so she was unaware of their roles in the franchise. On top of that, it had been a long day of press leading up to the premiere, so Curtis was exhausted. She asked about Harris’ kids and got her address to send over some children’s books. Harris also said that Curtis signed the books, and not just with her name, but with very specific drawings and phrases for the kids. In the end, it changed Harris’ perception of Curtis because “she extended the olive branch.” They begin talking about the experience during the last six minutes or so of Episode 149 of their podcast.
Danielle Harris and Scout Taylor-Compton Were Candid About Their First Meeting With Jamie Lee Curtis
For those who don’t remember, Harris and Compton were very candid about their negative interactions with the star at the Halloween Ends premiere. After the movie screened, the pair went to an after party where they wanted to use the event as a chance to finally introduce themselves to Curtis. After Harris approached Curtis and explained that she played her daughter in one of the sequels, the actress stated bluntly, “I’ve never seen those movies, I don’t know who you are.”

Compton’s exchange with Curtis was similar, but she wasn’t aware that Harris already had an encounter with the veteran actress. The Halloween remake star wanted to share with Curtis that it was an honor to portray Laurie Strode in the reboot, the role that gave Curtis her film career. At the time, Compton didn’t give specific details about how the encounter went down, but, after beginning to cry, she said, “We just left [the party] feeling very, very hurt.”
As it turns out, Curtis wasn’t trying to be rude; she was out of it after doing press all day for her final battle with Michael Myers in Halloween Ends. Harris and Compton considered this possibility when they first detailed the initial encounter. At the time, they said she still deserved all the love that she gets from the fans, despite their experience, and were pretty mature about the whole thing. It’s nice to see that the olive branch was extended, and they got a better impression of someone they seem to really admire.
