The vehicle fire has been cleared and all lanes on the M4 westbound between J46 and J47 are now open.
Both lanes were blocked and drivers were held for about 25 minutes, according to traffic monitoring system, Inrix.
Heavy delays and stop-start traffic continue, with congestion going back to J44 and on the A48 near J47.
