The mayor of New Orleans announced on Monday evening that the National Guard would be deployed in the city “through Mardi Gras.”
“We absolutely are welcoming of those added resources,” mayor LaToya Cantrell told the press during a briefing about the security measures around New Year’s celebrations.
A terror attack killed 14 people during last year’s celebrations.
President Donald Trump said earlier this month that National Guard troops will soon head to New Orleans and bring another federal surge to the city that is already awaiting a separate immigration crackdown dubbed “Swamp Sweep.”
