A significant portion of Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County could soon be ceremonially renamed “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.”
The law instructs the Florida Department of Transportation to install signage for “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard” on the specified section. It also directs the department to rename another portion as “PBSO Motorman Highway” to honor three Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office motorcycle deputies—Cpl. Luis Paez, Deputy Ignacio “Dan” Diaz, and Deputy Ralph “Butch” Waller—who died in a crash in November 2024.
The honorary designations are ceremonial. The official name for postal addresses and emergency response will remain Southern Boulevard.
The law requires local approval before any signage can be installed. The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners must approve the resolution for the changes to take effect. If approved, the new signs are expected to be in place by September.
The law’s effective date is July 1 but implementation depends on local government action.
The renaming recognized Trump’s presidency, accomplishments during his first term, and his reelection in November 2024.
The resolution highlighted several achievements by Trump, including his signing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, economic policies leading to record-low unemployment rates, establishing the United States Space Force, brokering the Abraham Accords, and actions to promote democracy globally, including sanctions against Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo said he was grateful for the collaboration, stating that the renaming honors Trump’s commitment to “putting America first.”
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera, who sponsored the initiative, described the co-designation as a lasting tribute to Trump’s leadership and vision for freedom and opportunity. The renaming affects Palm Avenue within Hialeah, with updated signage coordinated by various county departments and agencies.
If the Palm Beach County commission votes to approve the resolution, the Florida Department of Transportation will coordinate with local authorities to install the new signs.
The latest proposal reflects ongoing efforts in Florida to commemorate individuals and events significant to the local community and state history, with Palm Beach County potentially joining Miami-Dade County in honoring former President Donald Trump with a ceremonial road designation.
