Prince William records very special video message played live on BBC | Royal | News

Prince William has paid a “massive congratulations” to BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox as she starts the final day of her Great Northern Marathon Challenge today, running five marathons in as many days. She is undertaking the challenge this week for Children in Need, raising more than £4.1million.

Presenter Scott Mills played the special video message live on the programme this morning, in a bid to motivate the exhausted radio host as nears the finish line. The prince said: “Sarah, massive congratulations for what you’re doing. You’re so nearly there, just a little bit further, and I know the people of Pudsey will all come out and welcome you with huge open arms, big hugs, and hopefully, lots of your favourite crumpets. Keep going, you’ve done fantastically well, and the nation’s so proud of you.”

After hearing the message live on air this morning, Sara says: “Wow, thanks William. Thank you. Thanks very much.”

Earlier this morning as she started her final marathon in the dark, rainy conditions, the broadcaster said: “I’ve not got much left in the tank. I’ve still got such a long way to go. It is dark and it is raining. The rain is going to be relentless today. My toes are like little cocktail sausages.

“It’s so cold – I don’t want to go out there… I feel sick. I think it’s the adrenaline and nerves.”

Sara is unfortunately facing brutal conditions as the Met Office has issued an amber weather warning as Storm Claudia is forecasted to bring heavy and persistent rain in parts of the UK.
