Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are dominating the headlines once again today after it has emerged that they have one demand if they are to leave the 30-bed Royal Lodge mansion they currently live in. Since becoming entangled in new scandals surrounding their previous associations with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, the divorced couple – who still live together – have faced a wave of public criticism.
This has led to them succumbing to pressure to drop the use of their royal titles, and now pressure to leave the 30-bed Crown Estate home they have been living in. Andrew previously signed the 75-year lease to the home in 2003.
However, with a potential eviction looming, it has been widely reported that Andrew has demanded two homes instead of his mansion – one for him and one for his ex-wife.
This has led to some surprise among royal fans, especially as Andrew and Sarah have co-habited nicely at the mansion for years, with Sarah also once calling them the “happiest divorced couple in the world”.
Although Andrew and Sarah have not explained why they want separate homes, a friend of the pair has revealed the real reason behind this, which is reportedly because they “need a break from one another”.
The friend told The Sun: “Incredibly Sarah has said she wants Adelaide Cottage. Sarah and Andy have lived together at Royal Lodge since 2008 despite being divorced and seem like they are still a married couple.
“It’s incredible that they are willing to go their own separate ways. But it indicates that they have been under immense strain this year and need a break from one another. It’s a fresh start for both.”
The friend explained that Andrew, 65, has set his sights on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former home Frogmore Cottage, which would reportedly be “too small” for them both.
It is believed Sarah wants to move into Prince William and Princess Kate’s Adelaide Cottage home once they move in a few weeks.
The friend said: “Frogmore Cottage is too small for both and Adelaide Cottage is around the corner so they will see each other whenever they want.
“Both have space for their daughters Eugenie and Beatrice and their families to visit.”
