Nearly two months after Robin Hood aired its season finale, MGM+ has given good news to the archer’s future on television. Debuting on MGM+ on Nov. 2, 2025, the series stars Jack Pattern and Lauren McQueen as Robin Hood and Maid Marion, respectively, with The Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham. The ten-episode season aired its finale on Dec. 28, 2025, leaving fans to wait for its future.
MGM+ has officially renewed Robin Hood, according to Deadline. Casting for Season 2 will begin shortly and is expected to expand the story beyond Sherwood Forest and Nottingham into the courts of England, France, and Rome. Michael Wright, global head of MGM+ said in a statement regarding the Season 2 renewal:
“Robin Hood quickly became one of our top-performing original series of all time, and the response from our audiences both in the U.S. and abroad has been exceptional. We’re thrilled to continue this epic adventure for a second season. John Glenn, Jonathan English, and the entire creative team have reimagined this legendary tale with remarkable depth and authenticity, and we can’t wait to see where they take us next.”
A Successful ‘Robin Hood’ Reimagining for a Modern Age
Robin Hood is one of the most famous characters in literature and has been adapted in a number of ways, from the classic Errol Flynn’s The Adventures of Robin Hood to the Walt Disney animated film which saw all the characters depicted as anthropomorphic animals. Kevin Costner, Cary Elwes, Russell Crowe, and Taron Egerton are just a few of the actors who have stepped into the iconic role. While Robin Hood has struggled on film in recent years, with 2018’s Robin Hood a box-office and critical flop, the MGM+ series has proven to be a successful reinvention of the character.
Television has proven to be a successful medium for Robin Hood. The BBC’s 2006 Robin Hood, starring Jonas Armstrong, Lucy Griffins, and Richard Armitage, ran for three seasons. Even though Disney has not remade Robin Hood in live action, the character was incorporated into its hit television series Once Upon a Time, originally played by Lucifer‘s Tom Ellis, who was later succeeded by Sean Maguire, who eventually became a series regular. Now with Robin Hood, MGM+ might have found a series that can truly break out into the mainstream.
While fans wait for Robin Hood Season 2, a new take on the famous outlawed archer will hit theaters in June 2026. The Death of Robin Hood, starring Hugh Jackman, will follow an older, seasoned Robin Hood at the end of his career, looking to make amends for his past actions. The deconstruction of the Robin Hood myth will be directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One) and will open in theaters on Jun. 19, 2026.
