Ronnie O’Sullivan picks two rising snooker stars who could be next World Championship challengers

Ronnie O’Sullivan has named Stan Moody and Jackson Page as two potential world-beaters for the future of snooker.

Given he’s a seven-time World Snooker Championship winner, O’Sullivan knows how to become one of the very best in the business.

He turned professional at 16 years old and rose up the ranks to win a record 41 ranking titles and turn into an all-time great.

The next generation of snooker players made history in May as 28-year-old Zhao Xintong became the first ever Asian world champion.

Zhao is joined by an abundance of talent from his native China, such as Si Jiahui, Wu Yize and Pang Junxu.

But O’Sullivan has got his eye on two prospects from the United Kingdom who could follow in his footsteps throughout their careers.

On talkSPORT Drive, Andy Goldstein asked him: “Where do you think the future of snooker is?

“Do we have a lot of homegrown kids here that you’re looking at thinking they’re going to be the next Ronnie O’Sullivan, the next Jimmy White, the next Stephen Hendry.

“Or do you think that Asian players are, at the moment, just head and shoulders above the rest?”

O’Sullivan replied: “To say Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, that’s a difficult one, isn’t it? They’re just generational sort of players, you’re talking about probably the two greatest snooker players that ever played.

“But there’s some fantastic talent, obviously [Zhao] Xintong won the World Championship. Whether he will dominate, I’m not sure.

“There’s so many good players around there that are capable of beating each other, Kyren Wilson and Judd Trump. So no one’s going to really dominate. But I think China are ahead of the game.

“I like Stan Moody. I think he looks good around his head, good composure, hits the ball really well.

“Jackson Page from Wales. I think he’s only like 22 [24], he looks about 42. So I was shocked when they told me he was 21, 22. I was like, wow.

“There are some good homegrown players there, but the strength and depth is obviously in China.

“There’s probably like 15, 20 players from China, young players, that are capable of winning tournaments.”

Superstar Stan

Moody is an English national snooker champion at U14, U16 and U18 levels, and turned professional in 2023.

He won the WSF Junior Open that same year to earn a two-year card on the world tour.

The 19-year-old has won 51 of his 105 matches across all formats and reached qualifying for the World Championships on three occasions.

Moody has enjoyed a strong 2025/26 season as he became a quarter-finalist at both the Wuhan Open and British Open.

Page potential

An amateur European champion at U21 level, Welshman Page has been on the professional scene since 2019.

The 24-year-old was a World Open semi-finalist in 2024 but was up against Judd Trump, who is now the world no. 1.

Page went a step further at the Championship League as he played in his first ranking tournament final, won by Ali Carter.

He is the first player to produce two maximum breaks in a match, with 123 victories from 254 matches coming his way across his career.
