Snooker star on course to scoop £100k and smash world record during World Championship

Judd Trump could bag a six-figure prize after an impressive start to the 2025 World Snooker Championship.

The world no.1 currently leads Zhou Yuelong 6-3 in their round one clash at the iconic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

Trump must win four more frames when play resumes on Wednesday after an excellent opening session on Tuesday.

He pocketed two centuries against Yuelong, scoring 113 and 117 to increase his overall tally to 94 for the season so far.

As a result, Trump is on course for a huge monetary reward thanks to an initiative introduced by the World Snooker Tour.

They announced in July that the first player who makes 100 century breaks during the 2024/25 season will win a £100,000 bonus.

Trump is the only player close to reaching this figure and now needs just six more centuries to achieve this.

More impressively, he already achieved a century of centuries, notching 102 in the 2019/20 season.

Only Neil Robertson has achieved this, hitting a world-record 103 in the 2013/14 campaign.

But Trump has the opportunity to eclipse this long-standing feat as he searches for his second World Championship title.

The 2019 champion opened his season with victory at the Shanghai Masters in July before winning the inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.

At the British Open, Trump became only the third player, after Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins, to score his 1,000th career century.

He then won his second UK Championship title in December before reaching the 2025 Masters semi-finals.

Winning the World Championship would add further glory to his season, although he must first defeat Yuelong.

Trump will face either Shaun Murphy or Daniel Wells in round two if he wins; Murphy currently leads 7-2.

Elsewhere in the main draw, O’Sullivan leads long-term rival Ali Carter 5-4, with their match getting back underway this afternoon.

A total prize fund of £2,395,000 is available this year, with the winner earning a huge £500,000.
