The first trailer Superman has been revealed, and it’s safe to say it included everything diehard fans could want from a sneak preview of the DCU’s first film. Directed by James Gunn, Superman features the debut of David Corenswent in the titular Kryptonian role, but the film also establishes a new set of heroes for the big screen. From Green Lantern to Hawkgirl, the DCU will begin with a big bang right from the jump in a world that already has too many heroes to account for, in addition to the Man of Steel.
The new trailer for Superman unveils the superhero team already established in the new DCU, known as the Justice Society of America in the comics. Footage (see below) reveals Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. For longtime fans of the source material, the superhero group being revealed so early in the Superman marketing process is exciting and speaks to their importance in the upcoming film. In many ways, Superman will have to do the heavy lifting to get the rebooted cinematic universe off the ground, and Gunn smartly uses underutilized comic book characters that have yet to make their mark on the big screen, or in live-action in general.
Mister Terrific, in particular, plays a major role in the DCU superhero film. However, that does not mean every other aforementioned character is glorified a cameo, either. Gunn already confirmed that each hero has a role to play in Superman. His words:
“These characters all get their moment in the sun. They all have their moments. They’re not just cameos, these are the characters.”

It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill’s departure from the role, honoring the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
