‘The Accountant 2’ Continues to Dominate Streaming Three Weeks Premiere

Almost three weeks after its debut on Prime Video, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal’s The Accountant 2 continues to dominate the streaming charts. Premiering on Thursday, June 5, the action sequel has easily commanded the number one spot this whole time, fending off newcomers like the comedic crime thriller, Deep Cover. That’s no small feat when you consider the Amazon original starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed snagged an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score, and is now Certified Fresh with a 91%.

Reuniting Affleck and Bernthal after almost 10 years, The Accountant 2‘s success on streaming comes as no surprise, really. It was perhaps one of the most anticipated action sequels in recent memory, and didn’t disappoint the fans. While its box-office performance of $102 million against an $80 million budget may not have been anything to write home about, its Verified Hot score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes from those that saw it signals that it’s a huge favorite of many. Its position on the Prime Video charts also points to the growing trend of folks waiting for a film to hit streaming before they watch it, rather than shelling out big bucks for the theatrical experience.

Ben Affleck’s Forgotten Masterpiece Deserves a Second Look After ‘The Accountant 2’

Ben Affleck’s riveting 2002 thriller ‘Changing Lanes’ explores moral ambiguity in much the same way as ‘The Accountant 2.’

Starring Affleck as Christian Wolff and Bernthal as his estranged and lethal brother, Braxton, The Accountant 2 sees the pair unravel the mystery behind the death of one of Wolff’s old acquaintances (J. K. Simmons). Enlisting the help of U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried. Sadly, Anna Kendrick did not return to reprise her role of Dana Cummings this time around, but all signs point to her making her comeback in The Accountant 3, which is now in the early stages of development.

As mentioned, The Accountant 2‘s Verified Hot score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes compared to its 77% rating from critics points to most fans loving the long-awaited action sequel. With more than 5,000 reviews on the website, user Jeff B says it “further develops the brothers’ relationship in a fun and interesting way,” while also adding that “the final battle in this movie was superior to that of the first film.” Another fan named Uziel also has nothing but good things to say, commenting:

“Great continuation of the first film, more time with the brother dynamic. Great action. A good movie for anyone who has a neurodivergent person in their life.”

Thousands of others mentioned that they absolutely loved The Accountant 2 for its action, humor, and the pairing of Affleck and Bernthal, who definitely make for an odd couple in director Gavin O’Connor’s sequel. Dare we say it’s a throwback to buddy action comedies from the late 90s and early aughts, only ten times as good, as the two stars definitely have a chemistry that goes way beyond a few laughs.

If you’ve yet to see it, The Accountant 2 is now streaming on Prime Video along with the 2016 original.
