The UK’s largest Marks and Spencer it’s like a ‘mini city’ | UK | News

Spanning the size of eleven Olympic sized swimming pools, the UK’s largest Marks and Spencer is so big that it’s like a “mini city”. Opening its sprawling doors in August 2012, M&S Cheshire Oaks is a multiple award-winning store.

It is the biggest store M&S has ever built from scratch the store is just not just a usual supermarket, it is an experience, one that you could easily lose countless hours in. With more than 148,000 sq ft of selling space over two floors this store entices shoppers from across the county. The sheer scale of the store is dizzying, with products stretching as far as the eye can see.

In a TikTok by globelister, which has amassed one million views, said: “Most people don’t know there is but there is a Marks and Spencer in the UK that is so big it’s practically a mini city.

“It’s not in London, it’s not even in a major city centre and yet it draws shoppers from miles away.”

Inside you’ll find all your favourite M&S delights from an enormous food hall, a full clothing department for men, women and kids, a massive homewear section and beauty counters.

There are also two cafes perfect for shoppers to put your feet up and take a break mid way through shopping till you drop. The cafes have seating for around 430 customers.

When it opened, the flagship store was described as the “best M&S ever” by bosses who said it was only fitting that it should be located in the north west, the region where the company opened its first shop in Manchester in 1894.

With wild aisles and open planned displays it was the first store to use hemp and lime external wall panels. These have excellent insulation properties resulting in the store losing less than 1C of heat overnight compared to 9°C in other store environments.

It also created over 350 new jobs and included placements for Marks & Start, which provided employment opportunities for disadvantaged groups.

This M&S is located within CheshireOaks Designer Outlet – the largest outlet centre in the UK with 145 stores, and was the first designer outlet village in Europe  when it opened in 1995.

Located off Junction 10 of the M53 it has a quarter-million square feet of retail space, there are also 20 places to eat and drink while you shop.
