Tom Hardy’s $380 Million “Action Masterpiece” Is Leaving Streaming

Arguably, Tom Hardy’s best action movie, and a modern classic of the genre, is about to drive away from its current streaming home. Movie fans usually hate reboots and revivals of beloved franchises. But when Tom Hardy stepped out into the Wasteland of Australia, armed with only a sawn-off shotgun and a suped-up car, action fans lost their minds. We’re, of course, talking about Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller’s long-awaited revival of the Mad Max franchise, which originally starred Mel Gibson. But, fans only have a limited time to watch the best movie in the series on streaming.

Mad Max: Fury Road is currently streaming on Netflix. But the streaming giant will remove Mad Max: Fury Road in the New Year (that’s the wrong way to interpret “New Year, New Me”). Fury Road will leave Netflix on January 1, 2026, meaning you only have a few weeks left to stream the action movie on the platform. But all hope isn’t lost. Given how popular and acclaimed the movie is (it didn’t win six Oscars for no reason), Mad Max: Fury Road has a habit of bouncing between streamers, as everyone wants to get their hands on Tom Hardy’s phenomenal, high-octane action flick. Alternatively, you can feel really smug about owning it on Blu-ray or 4K.

Not that it really needs an introduction, but Mad Max: Fury Road stars Hardy as, you guessed it, Max (who’s only slightly mad in this film), a survivor in the post-nuclear wasteland of Australia. After being captured by the dictator, Immortan Joe, Max finds himself involved in an escape plot orchestrated by the ruthless Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). Alongside the pair, the movie also stars Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Josh Helman, and Nathan Jones. The official synopsis reads:

“Years after the collapse of civilization, the tyrannical Immortan Joe enslaves apocalypse survivors inside the desert fortress the Citadel. When the warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) leads the despot’s five wives in a daring escape, she forges an alliance with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a loner and former captive. Fortified in the massive, armored truck the War Rig, they try to outrun the ruthless warlord and his henchmen in a deadly high-speed chase through the Wasteland.”

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Is the Best Action Movie of the 21st Century

In June 2025, The NY Times controversially released a list of the greatest movies of the 21st Century, as voted for by Hollywood insiders and filmmakers. Mad Max: Fury Road didn’t just rank highly among its contemporaries; it was the highest-rated action movie on the list. Parasite held the number one spot. But Mad Max: Fury Road came in at 11th, and was the highest-rated film in the action genre.

That praise extends to its Rotten Tomatoes score, as it holds a near-flawless rating of 97%. Audiences were slightly more critical. But it still has a great user rating of 86%. “Amazing how a movie about the apocalypse brought vibrant colors back in style. I hate car chases, and this is one giant car chase. Somehow it is still a perfect movie,” wrote one initially skeptical viewer who fell in love with the film, while another said. “Action masterpiece, breathtaking scenes, didnt realized the time going through, two hours passed in two minutes.”
