Trump to Hold Victory Rally in Washington Ahead of Inauguration

President-elect Donald Trump is set to headline a victory event in Washington, marking his first major rally at the nation’s capital since 2021.

The “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” will be held on Sunday, Jan. 19, the day before his presidential inauguration.

“Join President Trump at Capital One Arena for a victory rally you’ll never forget!” the event’s registration site reads.

The indoor rally at the Capitol One arena can seat about 20,o00 people. Supporters can register for up to two tickets per mobile number and all tickets are based on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Security is expected to be tight for the event, especially after an assassination attempt at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024. Following that incident, the U.S. Secret Service faced fierce criticism amid its failures to protect Trump and Kimberly Cheatle resigned as head of the agency.

Acting director Ronald Rowe testified during a series of congressional hearings about the agency’s response to the attempted assassination.

“What has become clear to me is that we need a shift in paradigm in how we conduct our operations,” Rowe said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Trump’s win against Vice President Kamala Harris was considered a decisive victory. Trump won 312 electoral votes and 49.9 percent of the popular vote.

His presidential win was an unparalleled “political rebirth,” according to Time magazine, which named Trump its “Person of the Year.”

“The beauty is that we won by so much. The mandate was massive,” Trump told Time.

Trump will enter his second term as president from a position of strength. In addition to winning the presidency, Republicans also secured control of both the House and Senate, an important factor in pushing his legislative agenda forward.

Following his win, Trump has appointed individuals to serve as his White House staff and high-profile positions in his Cabinet, some of which still require Senate confirmation.

On the campaign trail, Trump outlined his agenda for his second term in office, which included tariffs on China, Mexico, and Canada and mass deportations. He also vowed to increase the production of fossil fuels, promising to “drill, baby, drill,” when he gets into office on day one.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has promised a peaceful transfer of power. Both chambers of Congress will convene to certify the results of the 2024 election on Jan. 6. As vice president and head of the Senate, Harris will oversee this process, one that is considered largely ceremonial.
