Tuesday horse racing tips
RIPON
- 2.35: Lady Kodiac (1pt), 3.35: Count d’Orsay (0.5pt)
MUSSELBURGH
Lady Kodiac 13/2
Schrodinger’s Cat is 0-5 now despite having been favourite in his last two races, though he has finished close to the winner each time in all his last four races.
That said, 11/8 doesn’t quite appeal for this maiden up against some unexposed sorts, despite their lack of experience.
Lady Kodiac appears for her debut and has gone in from 17/2 to 13/2 and though she requires a bit of a gamble is still the one to side with each-way given her rival’s form and her own pedigree.
Count d’Orsay 20/1
Wouldn’t usually back a horse that has yet to go close this season but the veteran hasn’t exactly been fancied in any of his starts this year.
He’s been 66/1 twice, 50/1 and 33/1 in Class 2 and Class 3 handicaps – going closest when sixth at 28/1 in a Class 4, which is the level he goes back down to today, off a staggering 7lb lighter.
In contrast, in 2024 he was only really seen in Class 4 company – even winning twice at the end of the year off 5lb and 7lb higher.
This mark seems to be his ideal and though it’s still a question mark at this time given his form this year, he’s worth a small each-way at a big price down in handicap level.
He reached this mark last year a couple of times after a very busy season, and often ran well at this kind of weight.
Toralou 11/8
Looks a strong favourite in a four-runner event at Musselburgh.
Raced twice over 1m this season and has the form over this distance that the others don’t quite have.
She carried 5lb more than the three-year-old gelding, who himself was beaten over 6f by a horse who won nicely enough in June, carrying 12lb more.
That horse is only rated 6lb higher still, so there would need to be dramatic improvement today from the Nigel Tinkler-trained horse.
