V for Vendetta is returning to theaters next year to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and it has picked the perfect release date. Directed by James McTeigue and produced by the Wachowskis, V for Vendetta is an adaptation of a popular graphic novel of the same name by Alan Moore, David Lloyd, and Tony Weare. The film follows masked anarchist V ( Hugo Weaving), who sparks a revolution in a dystopian London with a young woman, Evey ( Natalie Portman), caught up in the action. Both the movie and the graphic novel draw heavily from the revolutionary figure Guy Fawkes, with the film leaning heavily into the line “Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November.”
Fathom Events has announced it will be re-releasing V for Vendetta for two days in 2026. The first is November 1, but the second is the more appropriate November 5, aka Guy Fawkes Night, the important date in the film. Fathom released a special trailer announcing the release in one year. Fathom’s VP Studio Relations, Tom Lucas, via Deadline, said in a statement about the upcoming re-release:
“From its early days as a graphic novel and then a feature film, few properties have struck a chord with fans and been more thought-provoking societally than V for Vendetta. Twenty years later, the movie still resonates, and Fathom is so pleased to bring it back to theatres next November with our partners at Warner Bros. and Saga Arts.”
Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November
V for Vendetta opened in theaters on Mar. 17, 2006. It debuted at number one at the box office with a $25.6 million opening weekend, before going on to gross $70 million domestically and $132 million worldwide. It sits at a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. In the years since, the movie’s popularity has only grown, with the Guy Fawkes mask becoming a popular piece of merchandise and has since become associated with the hacktivist group Anonymous.
The re-releases of V for Vendetta will arrive on a Sunday and a Thursday, largely avoiding any major competition from new releases. Currently, no movie is scheduled to open on Oct. 30, 2025, as the Halloween weekend is typically a slow one at the box office. Nov. 6, 2026, will see the release of Warner Bros. The Cat in the Hat, starring Bill Hader and Jim Chaveziel-led the action film, Archangel.
V for Vendetta is a story that manages to speak to a new generation. The original graphic novel was published between 1982 and 1985 and was a critique of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her policies, known as Thatcherism. The 2006 film was a critique of the Bush administration, encroaching on civic freedoms like the Patriot Act, and Americans’ growing unease with the “War on Terror.” Now in 2025, with ICE raids ramping up in major cities across the United States, book bannings from alt-right parents groups, and the Trump administration letting millions of Americans’ SNAP benefits go unpaid while building a lavish ballroom, it is easy to see how V for Vendetta still strikes a chord with audiences all over again.
