As we edge ever closer to the official announcement regarding who will play the next James Bond, an announcement that’s expected to drop this year, Amazon has now revealed the new trailer for the next reboot in the iconic spy thriller franchise. The James Bond franchise is now under the creative control of Amazon MGM Studios after long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson chose to step down, with the studio and streamer teaming up with IO Interactive to deliver a reimagined origin story for the man who will become 007.
Details regarding Amazon’s plans for the next chapter in the long-running James Bond series have been slowly feeding through over the last few months. Dune and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve will direct the 26th installment in the franchise, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight now writing the script. As for who will win the coveted role, casting director Nina Gold, best known for finding faces for Game of Thrones and the Star Wars sequels, is now on the hunt, with unknown actor Tom Francis reportedly auditioning.
But before we reunite with a live-action Bond, the iconic secret agent will first return in pixel form, as the launch trailer for the upcoming video game 007 First Light teases an action-packed outing brimming with quips, shootouts, car chases, Bond girls, and death-defying leaps into danger. And all led by the latest actor to play the character, Dexter: Original Sin star Patrick Gibson.
The new trailer spotlights Bond’s reimagined origin story, the game’s ensemble cast, and “cinematic stealth-action gameplay built for player-driven creativity,” per a press release. Set to debut next week on May 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and in Summer 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, Gibson’s James Bond steps into the world of espionage after catching MI6’s attention, beating the odds in a precarious situation in Iceland. Clashing with the brass as usual, Bond’s skills are put to the test when the rogue return of 009 puts the whole 00-Programme in jeopardy, sending Bond on a journey across the world, pursuing leads from the quiet Carpathian Mountains to the dangerous black market of Aleph, and into the lair of the unpredictable Bawma (Lenny Kravitz).
Featuring all manner of gadgets, colorful allies and enemies, world-saving action, and all done with a wry smile from Gibson’s Bond, First Light could well provide some clues regarding what Amazon has in store for the iconic action hero. Starting with Patrick Gibson, many now feel the actor should be allowed to continue the role in live-action form in the name of both synergy and because he looks like he’s nailing it in First Light. However, bookies’ favorites remain Fantastic Beasts star Callum Turner, Euphoria’s Jacob Eloridi, and Babygirl’s Harris Dickinson.
Alongside this, a major rumor has claimed that Amazon, which has now been backed up by the recent casting update, will center on a much younger version of the character, taking him back to his origin before he obtained a license to kill and thus starting over following Daniel Craig’s fatal finale. While unconfirmed, this idea has been further bolstered by recent insights from Steven Knight, who has been researching the British Special Air Service (SAS) and other secret intelligence outfits. So, take a good look at First Light, as this could well be what we see come to life on the silver screen in James Bond 26.
