A mother was killed and her infant child was critically injured after falling from a Bronx apartment building early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Nathaly Ramirez, 23, and her 8-month-old daughter were pushed from a balcony at Allerville Arms, an 18-story residential building in the Allerton neighborhood, a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department (NYPD) told NTD via email on Wednesday.
Officers located the victims just before 3:40 a.m. on Oct. 6 while responding to a 911 call reporting that two people were in need of medical assistance outside the high-rise, located at 2550 Olinville Avenue near Allerton Avenue.
The spokesperson said the mother and child suffered injuries consistent with a “fall from an elevated position.” The mother was believed to have been holding the baby, whose name has not been released, which may have helped cushion her fall.
Officers took the critically injured child to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, about two miles away. Her current condition was not immediately available. Emergency medical personnel transported Ramirez to the same medical center, where she was later pronounced dead.

A memorial with candles, a photo of Ramirez, and a domestic violence poster have since been set up outside the Bronx building.
One witness told the outlet that she heard a woman yell out “please don’t do this!” on Tuesday, moments before seeing something plunge to the ground below.
Another neighbor, identified only as Mike, told Eyewitness News that a man had previously been involved in a disturbance at the residence at the beginning of the year.
“It happened in January,” the neighbor said. “He was kicking the door down trying to get into the apartment.”
Authorities have not provided any additional details about what may have led up to Tuesday’s incident, including a possible motive, or any identifying information about a suspect or person of interest.
The NYPD spokesperson told NTD that no arrests have been made in connection with the case at this time. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
