The Brooklyn Mirage, New York City’s iconic cultural hub, is about to redefine the nightlife experience with the debut of its first-ever artist residency featuring the legendary Black Coffee. As one of the most influential figures in electronic music today, Black Coffee’s residency at The Brooklyn Mirage marks an extraordinary milestone, not only for the venue but also for the artist himself, as it’s his inaugural residency in New York City.
This residency is set to push the boundaries of live music, offering far more than just a typical performance. Black Coffee, known for his distinctive “Afropolitan” style—a blend of metropolitan techno intertwined with traditional South African sounds—has reshaped the global dance music scene. His residency promises to be a groundbreaking auditory and visual experience, where each performance will immerse audiences in a full-spectrum sound journey, thanks to a newly installed custom L-Acoustics Soundsystem. The Brooklyn Mirage’s cutting-edge 270-degree virtual environment, with a staggering 30K resolution, 100 million pixels, and over 3,000 tiles, will bring Black Coffee’s vibrant visuals to life like never before, ensuring a fully immersive experience that goes beyond anything the DJ has done before.
This residency is a significant chapter in both Black Coffee’s and The Brooklyn Mirage’s histories. The artist has performed at the venue multiple times, including in 2019, 2021, and 2022, where he consistently sold out his shows. In 2022, he curated a legendary three-night event that included performances from iconic figures like Marshall Jefferson and DJ Pierre. Black Coffee’s achievements also include headlining and selling out two major venues with a co-promotional partnership with Avant Gardner: the monumental Madison Square Garden, where he made history as the first African DJ to sell out the venue, and Under the K Bridge, with its raw industrial aesthetic.
As The Brooklyn Mirage ushers in this exclusive residency, fans can expect a revolutionary fusion of music, technology, and artistry that will elevate the New York nightlife scene to unprecedented heights.
“Over the last ten years, The Brooklyn Mirage has seen incredible artists grace our stage, originally seen as local heroes and eventually becoming international household names. As we prepare to unveil our new build, we also sought to stake New York City’s claim as a must-visit destination for artists and music lovers and to offer the same residencies that have transformed other cities into music destinations,” said Josh Wyatt, CEO of Avant Gardner. “Black Coffee is an artist who holds the same willingness to push creative boundaries and has lit up stages worldwide. We are honored to provide a home for his first NYC residency.”
“New York has always been a special place for me and one of the most exciting crowds to come and spread love with, said Black Coffee. “I’m honored to hold the first ever residency at The Brooklyn Mirage, but even more so excited to make the newly re-vamped venue my NYC home for four dates in 2025!”
