Meghan Markle’s estranged father is “trapped” in his apartment in the Philippines after a massive earthquake yesterday. Thomas Markle, 80, moved to his new home in the Philippines earlier this year in a bid to have a fresh start after facing a number of challenges.
However, just months after moving into the high-rise apartment block, Mr Markle has now found himself stuck in his home as a result of Tuesday’s earthquake. This was confirmed by his daughter and Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle.
She wrote on X: “My father is stuck on the 19th floor of a building in the Philippines after a massive earthquake and he can’t walk and he is trapped.”
It is believed Mr Markle is still not in contact with his daughter Meghan, with the pair having fallen out ahead of her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
This was as a result of Mr Markle staging paparazzi pictures, which he claimed he did as they were going to make him look good – something he wanted as he said he was being followed by paparazzi who were sending photographs to the media that were resulting in negative press attention.
Speaking to Good Morning Britain in 2021, he said: “I wish I hadn’t done the whole thing. They [the press] were making me an alcoholic, calling me names, talking about the way I dress.
“So, I, yes, I went for this deal where this man was going to make me look better. Maybe I got sucked into it, but I believed him, and I thought it was going to work. It didn’t work. Of course.”
