The man who murdered four University of Idaho students in 2023 has been ordered to cover yet another cost related to his victims’ burials.
Prosecutors argued that Bryan Kohberger should reimburse the families of two victims roughly $3,000 to pay for the urns holding their ashes. A judge issued the ruling Thursday, following a hearing last month.
Kohberger had already been ordered to pay more than $30,000 in restitution as part of his plea agreement, which removed the death penalty from consideration.
His attorneys said he doesn’t have the money to cover the additional costs, but the judge rejected that argument. In a written decision, the judge noted Kohberger can earn the funds by working in prison or by seeking donations.
