A Lindenhurst man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old CVS employee who was killed while working on Christmas night, according to Suffolk County Police.
Police said John Pilaccio, 43, was taken into custody on Dec. 26 following an investigation into the stabbing death of Edeedson Cine, an employee at the CVS store located at 20 East Montauk Highway in Lindenhurst. Pilaccio is being held pending arraignment.
Cine, a resident of West Babylon, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Detectives with the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad continued investigating the incident through Dec. 26, reviewing evidence and seeking public assistance. Authorities previously asked anyone with information about the stabbing to contact the Homicide Squad or Crime Stoppers, emphasizing that tips could be submitted confidentially.
While police have not publicly detailed a motive for the attack, investigators said the stabbing occurred inside the store while Cine was working. The department has not released additional information regarding the events that led up to the assault.
“It is with heavy hearts, yet with faith in God’s eternal promises, that we share the story of a remarkable young man who was taken from this world far too soon,” the family wrote on the page. “He had a fierce heart for service, and his love for his family and friends was unwavering. That love will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know him.”
The fundraiser says Cine’s family has been overwhelmed by public support in the days following his death, calling the response a reminder that “humanity and community still exist.” Proceeds from the campaign are intended to support the family as they navigate the aftermath of the loss.
Police have not indicated whether additional charges could be filed or whether further arrests are expected. The investigation remains ongoing.
