Portsmouth LIVE: Protesters ‘stopping 140 migrants entering city’ | UK | News

Protesters have rushed to Portsmouth’s coastline following the arrival of a mega-dinghy carrying around 140 men. The area around the Eastney Landing is believed to have been shut down by emergency services on Sunday night (September 6) as crowds of protesters try to blockade the road.

Danny Tommo who led Saturday’s huge anti-immigration protest in Dover, has been live-streaming the drama from the pebbly south coast beach lit up only by emergency vehicles. Footage circulating on social media show dozens of men and women descending on the seaside in an alleged attempt to stop police transporting those who set across the English Channel from Cherbourg, France.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson confirmed: “In response to a report on September 6 of a small boat heading towards the Hampshire coast, HM Coastguard sent lifeboats, an HM Coastguard helicopter, an HM Coastguard aeroplane and HM Coastguard Rescue Teams. Border Force, Border Security Command, Hampshire Police and South Central Ambulance Service were also sent.”

Councillor George Madgwick, the leader of Reform UK in Hampshire, posted footage of the boat arriving in Portsmouth on X. He says the protesters have “blocked the road and stopped them entering the city”.
