A sushi establishment has spoken out after two customers allegedly departed without settling their bill, with employees describing the episode as leaving them feeling “helpless”.
The patrons had seemingly been having an ordinary dining experience at the Barcelona restaurant before they purportedly went outside for a cigarette and never came back.
Yuki Sushi Bonanova has now issued a public plea regarding the alleged dine-and-dash, calling on the duo to accept responsibility and pay what is owed.
The establishment posted information about the episode on Instagram, characterising it as “one of those situations you never expect.”
According to the restaurant, the two customers “ate quite normally, stepped out, supposedly for a cigarette, and never returned. They left without paying,” reports the Irish Mirror.

Yet the venue emphasised that the consequences of the episode extended beyond the unpaid amount.
“It’s not just about the money. It’s the feeling of helplessness that comes from seeing how some people can act this way so casually,” it stated.
Yuki Sushi Bonanova also highlighted the numerous individuals whose incomes depend on the establishment and the broader hospitality sector.
“Behind every dish, there are hours of hard work, suppliers, chefs, servers, cleaning staff, rent, and families who rely on this business for their livelihood,” it stated.
“A ‘dine-and-dash’ doesn’t hurt a faceless corporation; it directly harms real people who strive every day to do their jobs well.”
The Barcelona establishment suggested the alleged incident was symptomatic of a broader issue, claiming such conduct is becoming ever more prevalent.

“The saddest part is that this kind of behaviour seems to be becoming increasingly normalised,” it said.
It added: “Confusing cunning or “getting away with it” with a lack of values speaks volumes about the society we live in.”
The restaurant also released photographs purportedly depicting the alleged diners, though their faces were hidden in accordance with privacy regulations.
It subsequently appealed for anyone who recognised the pair to relay a message to them.
“If anyone recognizes these individuals (the images don’t show their faces due to privacy laws…), we would appreciate it if you could remind them that there is still time to do the right thing and come back to pay the bill,” the restaurant said.
Yuki Sushi Bonanova stated it remained hopeful the matter could yet be resolved, adding: “Anyone can make a mistake, but persisting in that lack of responsibility is a choice.”
The post concluded with a pointed remark directed at the alleged offenders: “Hopefully, one day, respect will come back into fashion.”
This incident is not the only recent case in Spain where restaurants have publicly accused customers of leaving without paying. In Tenerife, El Cañonazo in Santa Cruz de Tenerife released CCTV footage purportedly capturing a couple leaving the premises on August 22 without settling their bill.
The eatery also claimed the man was carrying a silver container containing leftover food as the couple departed.
“We’re so angry, and to make matters worse, there’s nothing we can do about it; we can’t publish their faces or report them because nobody’s helping us… It’s so infuriating! What would you do?” the restaurant said.
Elsewhere on the island, Aiko Sushi previously reported that two women allegedly left without paying a €144.50 bill on August 12.
The establishment revealed it attempted to reach the pair via the phone number provided at the time of booking, but claimed the number had since blocked the business.
