Mental health is slowly starting to become less of a taboo subject and discussed more openly, but there are still mountains to climb.

The Prince of Wales is determined to be at the forefront of the movement breaking down barriers and ensuring that suicide prevention is part of our everyday culture.

He strongly believes that there shouldn’t be a stigma attached to poor mental health or to those affected by people who have died by suicide and he’s using his unique power to change the landscape.

Standing before the 250 people assembled in Everton’s football stadium for the unveiling of a new toolkit on suicide prevention for the sport sector, William delivered his most powerful speech on the subject yet.

He spoke about suicide being everyone’s responsibility, and as friends, collegues, family members and coaches, we are best placed to spot if someone else is struggling – as by spending so much time with one another it’s us who can spot changes in someones behaviour and have the opportunity to reach out.

But knowing how to start those difficult conversations confidently and safely is a battle in itself, which is where the On Your Side toolkit comes in.
