The Perfect ‘Walking Dead’ Replacement Arrives in First Teaser for New Post-Apocalyptic Thriller

There’s always an appetite for fresh horror favorites, and a brutal new story is headed to screens to sate the hunger of horror audiences. Part The Walking Dead, part 28 Days Later, a brand-new zombie excursion is coming soon, and it may be the most ruthless release yet.

After the immense popularity of Prime Video’s The Boys, we are well aware of the gruesome capabilities of Garth Ennis, co-creator of the original comic series. He’s never shied away from blood and gore, and Crossed, the latest adaptation born of the comic creator’s sadistic mind, is no exception. The horror comic is harsh and unforgiving, and that same ruthless tone will carry through to its upcoming on-screen adaptation.

A teaser for the live-action adaptation of Crossed promises all the savagery readers came to expect from the 10-issue comic series. The story takes place in a post-pandemic world as survivors of a horrific virus struggle to withstand a terrifying new breed of infected. Unlike the shambling undead of the Walking Dead universe, the Crossed aren’t mindless zombies. They’re bloodthirsty maniacs, but they retain enough of their faculties to scheme and use tools. The result is a truly nightmarish scenario, in which ruthless lunatics maim, cannibalize, and torture anyone they can get their hands on.

The first official Crossed teaser promises a worthy adaptation, with several key scenes lifted directly from the comic. The look of the Crossed — who develop a large, cross-like rash across their faces following infection — is right on target, and the storyline teased across the brief one-minute trailer is just as gripping and unsettling as the source material.

After reading about Crossed, how likely are you to watch this new horror adaptation when it’s released?

Ennis is directly involved in the script, so it’s no surprise that Crossed looks so familiar to readers of the comics. The upcoming film is directed by Rob Jabbaz, known for his work on The Sadness, a similarly brutal movie. Crossed stars Devin Druid, of 13 Reasons Why and Founders Day, alongside Ash Santos of American Horror Story and Marshals. They’ll appear alongside Cobra Kai‘s Owen Harn, who was tapped to portray the notorious infected Horsecock,The Haunting of Hill House‘s Fedor Steer as Face, and City of Love‘s Kelvin Adekunle as Stump, according to Bleeding Cool.

The horror adaptation will follow a group of survivors, led by Druid and Santos as Stan and Cindy, as they attempt to escape the infected. No release date has been announced as of this writing, but the brutal new horror flick can’t come soon enough.
