In a post on X, Pigott said the total and pace of cancellations were unprecedented.
The announcement reflects another increase in the administration’s reported visa revocations as officials expand scrutiny of foreign nationals over alleged criminal activity, immigration fraud and national security concerns.
“With over 300,000 revocations, the Trump administration has revoked more visas at a faster pace than any administration in history,” Pigott said.
“Let the message be clear: we have zero tolerance for foreigners here on visas who break the law, commit fraud, or undermine our national security,” he said. “We are taking, and will continue to take, action to keep our borders, and our nation, secure.”
Most cancellations involved law enforcement encounters related to alleged crimes, with assault, driving under the influence, theft and drug offenses among the leading reasons, according to a department news release.
Birth Tourism Crackdown
The administration has also pursued visa cancellations tied to birth tourism.
Hundreds of Chinese nationals had their visas revoked during that effort, according to a spokesperson, who told NTD that schemes involving Chinese nationals represented the largest target of the crackdown.
Nearly 900 visas were revoked within 10 days after the department established its Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force on Aug. 12.
The task force seeks to identify suspected birth tourism, cancel visas held by participants or facilitators, and disrupt businesses profiting from the practice.
The department defines birth tourism fraud as obtaining or using a visitor visa under false pretenses to enter the country primarily to give birth so a child can obtain U.S. citizenship.
Social Media Screening
The enforcement campaign also includes closer examination of visa applicants and existing holders through expanded security and social media screening. Earlier this summer, the visas of numerous foreign nationals who celebrated the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk were among those revoked.
One stated, “when fascists die, democrats don’t complain,” and another said Kirk “died too late,” leading to the revocation.
In an August news release, the State Department said Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also determined that numerous foreign nationals are deportable on foreign policy grounds.
The release said foreign nationals who had been deported under such grounds included a “Cuban national connected to a Cuban communist regime influence operation, Iranian nationals with connections to the Iranian regime, a Laotian child sex offender pardoned by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and a Kuwaiti national who wished for violence against the President of the United States and called Americans his ‘enemy,’”
