Traffic is “blocked” on a stretch of the M62 this morning, following reports of a crash. All traffic is currently being held on the eastbound side of the motorway, according to traffic alert service Inrix. Cars are held between junction 11 for Birchwood to junction 12 for the Eccles Interchange.
Traffic was first stopped at around 6.45am, with long queues since building on the motorway. The AA is reporting “long delays” on the affected stretch, while traffic camera images show vehicles backed up amid the disruption. Motorists travelling through the area are facing delays during the morning rush hour.
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed emergency services are responding to a multi-vehicle crash involving up to five vehicles. Police described it as a “damage only” collision and said no serious injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.
Two of the four eastbound lanes remain closed, with traffic able to pass through lanes three and four. National Highways has reported delays of around 40 minutes and five miles of congestion on the approach to the incident.
