The Public Domain horror entries just keep on coming, with yet another entry in the Winnie-the-Pooh horror franchise, titled Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3. The first installment in the series was released in 2023, with the slasher gaining prominence for how it transformed a beloved childhood icon into something grotesque and horrifying. The buzz surrounding this new interpretation of the character would lead to an unprecedented expanded release for the movie, even though it would end up receiving mostly negative reviews. Still, grossing $7.7 million against a $50,000 budget meant that sequels were inevitable, with a new character being introduced in this third film.
It’s now been revealed that the Winnie-the-Pooh character Rabbit will be a focus of Blood and Honey 3, with a new look at the character being revealed. Filming is currently underway for the third film, two years after Blood and Honey 2 was released in 2024. Interestingly, the sequel took a more meta-fictional approach, with the focus being on a movie within a movie that is based on the events of the first film. There isn’t much known about what the third movie will be about, other than that it will be followed by a crossover called Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.
The first look at Rabbit in the upcoming movie indicates that the character will be made up of practical effects and costuming, much like other characters in the Poohniverse. To that end, Rabbit will be brought to life by two different performers: Roger L. Jackson, best known as the voice of Ghostface in the Scream franchise, will be voicing Rabbit, and the actor Jacob Marshfield will be physically in costume and performing as the character on screen. The website Bloody Disgusting received an exclusive look at the character, which can be seen below, with Rabbit sporting a colorful vest and a sinister grin.
Along with the announcement that production on the film had begun, the press release also revealed that Cris Parker (3C Films), Kira Reed Lorsch, Josephine Blazier, and Harrison Davis (son of Warwick Davis) have all been cast in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3. The returning cast from the previous movies includes George Montague as Pooh, Lewis Santer as Tigger, and Scott Chambers as Christopher Robin. Scott Chambers will be directing the film from a script written by Richard Stanley, who is best known for writing the Nicolas Cage film Color Out of Space.
Besides Rabbit, Blood and Honey 3 will also introduce terrifying new versions of other iconic characters from the original source material, such as the heffalumps and woozles. There is still no set release date for Blood and Honey 3 or its crossover with other movies made in a similar fashion, such as Pinocchio Unstrung. Seeing beloved children’s characters transformed into something new and terrifying thanks to the public domain has been interesting, providing a new creative outlet for independent filmmakers to work with well-known names and characters without having to worry about copyright infringements. As the Poohniverse continues to expand, there are sure to be other classic characters from the Pooh catalog that will make their way to the big screen in horrific and unexpected ways.
