One of the best action movies of recent years is about to slice its way onto free streaming. After co-directing John Wick with Chad Stahelski, former stunt-performer-turned-director David Leitch moved on to other action movies. 2016’s Atomic Blonde quickly became a modern classic, while the Ryan Gosling-led Fall Guy was an entertaining, if unmemorable flick. But, in 2022, Leitch teamed up with none other than Brad Pitt for his biggest action movie yet, and it’s about to stream for free.
Coming to Tubi in April 2026, alongside other action classics like Dredd, Man on Fire, The Rock, and North by Northwest, David Leitch’s Bullet Train will also stream for free next month. Bullet Train lands on Tubi on April 1. Leitch’s modern classic action flick starred Brad Pitt as Ladybug, a down-on-his-luck assassin determined to turn his life around and live a peaceful life. But when he’s suckered into doing one last job, stealing a briefcase on a Japanese bullet train, things go off the rails. Joining him on board are some of the world’s most dangerous assassins, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Bad Bunny, Karen Fukuhara, and Zazie Beetz.
Bullet Train was a decent hit for Sony. Against an estimated budget of $90 million, the film grossed $239 million worldwide. Since then, the film has been a constant favorite on various streaming sites. It has already bounced on and off free-streaming sites like Tubi and Pluto TV more than once. However, it still hasn’t secured a sequel, as of yet.
Critics Didn’t Know What to Make of ‘Bullet Train’
When Bullet Train was released in 2022, critics were completely divided on the film. Some saw it as a poorly-written action flick that’s overly reliant on its well-choreographed fight scenes to actually be a good movie. Others saw the film for what it was: a fun action comedy from one of the directors behind John Wick. As such, the film holds a very contentious Rotten Tomatoes score of 53%.
That John Wick experience shines through in Bullet Train, as the 87Eleven action team did some of their best work designing the Jackie Chan-esque fight scenes. The writing also feels reminiscent of the sharp, witty dialogue found in Guy Ritchie’s best movies, like Snatch and the recent The Gentlemen.
What’s Going On With ‘Bullet Train 2’?
Despite pulling a decent haul at the box office and continuously amassing a strong fandom with each new streaming home, Bullet Train 2 remains an uncertainty. In 2023, a report teased that a sequel was in development, with Margot Robbie set to join the cast, alongside the returning Brad Pitt. However, that report came from “Hollywood Insiders” — meaning it’s likely a total lie.
At the time of writing, Bullet Train 2 remains nothing more than a rumor. Leitch is currently working on eight movies, including Oceans 14, Gears of War, and another Jason Statham film. But none of those eight are Bullet Train. Even if they were, don’t expect him to get to it anytime soon.
