DWP confirms 2 new state pension payment dates for May Bank Holidays | Personal Finance | Finance

The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed dates that millions of Brits should expect their benefit and pension payments around the upcoming bank holidays. The UK has two bank holidays next month, the early May Bank Holiday, which falls on Monday, May 4 and the spring Bank Holiday on Monday, May 25.

Due to the bank holidays, DWP has confirmed that payments due on either of those dates will be paid early. GOV.UK states: “Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. If your payment date is on a weekend or a Bank Holiday you’ll usually be paid on the working day before.”

Those due a payment on Monday, May 4, will recieve their money on Friday, May 1 instead.

Those expecting their payment for on Monday, May 25 should expect them on Friday, May 22.

Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payments, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, and Attendance Allowance will all be paid out early.

However, it is important to note that the early Bank Holiday payments do not mean following payments will be issued earlier. They will be handed out on normal dates.

If a payment does not arrive on the expected date, claimants are advised to first check their bank account and online DWP account before making contact.

If you need to contact Universal Credit, you can call their helpline on 0800 328 5644 between Monday and Friday, 8am to 6pm, except on public holidays.

It is the same for state pension payments, anyone who is expected there on Monday, May 4 will receive it Friday, May 1. If you’re expecting it on May 25, you will receive it on May 22.

The day on which pensioners are normally paid is determined by the last two digits of their National Insurance number.

Those with numbers ending 00 to 19 are paid on Mondays, 20 to 39 on Tuesdays, 40 to 59 on Wednesdays, 60 to 79 on Thursdays and 80 to 99 on Fridays.
