Maroon is doing the interesting work in Elwood’s latest Core drop. It gives a familiar hoodie more depth, makes a matching knit set feel considered and brings a welcome change of colour to the canvas Petrol Jacket. Dark Ash Grey supplies the other half of the palette, a useful partner for the deeper red.
The update runs through sweats, tees and outer layers, with the Knit Zip Sweater and Baggy Sweater Pant returning alongside a new Core Polar Fleece. There is enough here to assemble a complete outfit, although the strongest purchases are the ones that earn a place beside clothes you already own.
Our starting point would be the Maroon Petrol Jacket, a grey base layer and trousers with some room through the leg. From there, the choice is how far you want to take the matching-set idea.
Two Colours, Several Ways To Wear Them
Maroon works particularly well with washed blue denim, ecru and dark brown. Dark Ash Grey gives it a subdued setting: try a maroon top with grey sweats, or put the grey fleece beneath the maroon jacket. Keeping the colours close in depth lets the textures carry the outfit.
A full set is the easiest route, but vary what surrounds it. Canvas over brushed terry, or a plain cotton tee beneath the knit zip, gives an otherwise coordinated outfit a little definition. The useful rule is to repeat the colour and change the surface.
Start With The Hoodie Or Quarter Zip

The Core Hoodie ($90) uses brushed French terry with a double-lined hood, dropped shoulders and a cinched hem. Its main fabric is organic cotton, with stretch in the ribbing. That combination of a loose shoulder and a more contained hem gives the shape some structure.
The Core Zip Hoodie ($95) offers the same easy layering idea with a YKK zip. Wear it open over a tee when you want a break in the colour, or close it up with the matching trousers.
For a cleaner neckline beneath a jacket, the Oversized Core Quarter Zip ($85) has an organic cotton terry body, mock neck and YKK zip. The Oversized Core Crewneck ($80) keeps things simpler still. Of the four, the quarter zip is our pick for wearing with jeans as often as sweats.
Choose The Sweatpant By Its Hem

Elwood offers three different full-length shapes, and the distinction matters more than whether you match the top. The Core Sweatpant ($80) is baggy through the leg with cinched ankle cuffs. Choose it if you like the fabric gathering above your footwear.
The Core Straight Leg Sweatpant ($90) falls into a wider, open leg. It is our first choice for a set worn outside the house: the uninterrupted line works well beneath the shorter Petrol Jacket. The Split Hem Sweatpant ($95) takes a relaxed straight leg and adds an opening at the hem, changing how it sits over a shoe.
The Core Sweatshort ($65), cut to sit just above the knee, completes the options for indoor wear or milder weather. Start with the hem you prefer, then choose the colour. Buying the right silhouette will do more for the outfit than adding another matching top.
The Knit Set Returns

The Knit Zip Sweater ($130) and Baggy Sweater Pant ($125) are the more expressive pairing. Jacquard logos give the set a recognisable identity; the sweater’s lightly distressed rib edges add to its deliberately worn appearance. A slightly oversized top and loose trousers keep the overall shape relaxed.
Both use a blend of recycled polyester, acrylic, wool and spandex, with wool accounting for 5%. This is textured casual knitwear, with a different look from the cotton terry pieces.
The complete set costs $255. We would choose Maroon and keep the tee and footwear plain. For a smaller commitment, wear the zip sweater with faded jeans and let the knit texture be the main event.
Polar Fleece Or Petrol Jacket?

The new Core Polar Fleece ($100) is a polyester pullover with branded buttons at the chest, front and back yoke seams, and binding at the cuffs and hem. Its slightly oversized cut makes sense over a tee. In Dark Ash Grey, it is an easy way to introduce another texture alongside denim or a cotton sweatpant.
The Petrol Jacket ($185) is the piece we would build the outfit around. Its cotton canvas shell, blanket felt plaid lining and corduroy collar bring a workwear influence to the drop. The lining is polyester, while the slightly cropped cut gives the jacket a useful relationship with wider trousers.
Maroon is our choice for the jacket. Wear it over a grey crewneck with dark jeans, or use it to finish the straight-leg sweat set. The different fabrics give the outfit a clear sense of layering.
Keep The Base Layer Simple
The Oversized Core Tee ($35) is the straightforward starting point. For a different finish, the Slub Tee ($40) has a textured jersey and raw-cut neckline; the Crop Hill Tee ($40) offers another boxy option, while the Cap Sleeve Tee ($40) changes the sleeve shape.
Fit varies between styles. The principal adult pieces are listed from XS to XXL, but a slightly oversized hoodie and a relaxed tee will sit differently on the body. Compare the individual measurements with a garment you already like before deciding to size up.
There Is A Kids’ Version, Too
The same two shades also reach the kids’ Core range: the Hoodie is $45, the Crewneck and Sweatpant are $40 each, and the Tee is $18. Listed sizes run from 2–3 through 12, making coordinated family outfits an option without requiring everyone to wear exactly the same combination.
The Three-Piece Starting Point
For us, the strongest small edit is the Maroon Petrol Jacket, a Dark Ash Grey tee and the Core Straight Leg Sweatpant. It introduces both seasonal colours and leaves plenty of room to mix in existing jeans, knits and outerwear. Add the knit set if you want a more coordinated look, or the Polar Fleece if another everyday layer is the priority.
The Maroon and Dark Ash Grey collection is available now at Elwood. Prices are in USD and were checked on November 3, 2026.
