Endgame Encore’ Screenings Have the 4 New Scenes Setting Up ‘Doomsday’

While Avengers Endgame: Encore dominated the box office, some who bought tickets hoping to see the new footage for Avengers: Doomsday might not have gotten the whole picture. The re-release was marketed not only as a chance for audiences to revisit Endgame in theaters, but also as a way to see additional footage laying the groundwork for Avengers: Doomsday. There are four new scenes, including a new ending with Loki visiting Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, Bruce Banner being abducted by Doctor Doom, and Doom’s mask being forged.

However, the scene at the TVA that shows the beginning of the Multiverse collapsing is reportedly only attached to select screenings, particularly in Disney’s new Infinity Vision and IMAX. Since Encore opened in 3,060 theaters, with 1,300 of those screens labeled Infinity Vision, only 42% of the screens playing the film had all the footage. It’s unclear whether IMAX, the format that Infinity Vision was created in response to, counts toward those 1,300 Infinity Vision screens. But it raises the question of why more than half of the screens showing Avengers Endgame: Encore miss one of the key scenes that supposedly sets up Avengers: Doomsday.

Why Disney Kept One ‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ Scene Exclusive For Infinity Vision and IMAX

Disney seemingly kept one bonus scene for Avengers: Doomsday (and the longest one) exclusively for Infinity Vision and IMAX screens for two reasons. First, these screenings came with higher ticket prices, which helped boost the movie’s box office. Second, Disney used it to market Infinity Vision, a new branding for premium-format screens, after Avengers: Doomsday was locked out of IMAX screens because Dune: Part Three secured the Dec. 18, 2026 release well in advance.

Avengers Endgame: Encore has been a test run for Infinity Vision ahead of Avengers: Doomsday. While some might call it a “cash grab,” you could also call it an advertisement. Endgame: Encore is trying to get everyone comfortable with the idea that just because they won’t see Doomsday in IMAX, they can still have a great cinematic experience. That raises the question of why Encore has IMAX screenings. The problem is that Disney and Marvel Studios didn’t take the time to properly explain that the Infinity Vision screens include an extra scene.

Does This Create a Larger Problem for the MCU?

The first trailer for Avengers Endgame: Encore was released on Aug. 25, 2026, around one month before it opened in theaters. The trailer encourages you to see the movie to relive the experience, and if that were the case, the bonus surprise scenes for Doomsday would likely have been received more positively. However, the trailer ends with “Be the first to see an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday.” That implies any screening of the film will include the same additional material. There is no indication that select footage is exclusively attached to specific formats.

According to press releases and people noting different showtimes on ticket-purchasing apps, we can assume that Endgame: Encore would run longer in select formats to account for the new scenes. It also doesn’t help that director Joe Russo is hyping up how important these added scenes are for setting up Avengers: Doomsday. If they are so important, it’s easy to ask why they wouldn’t be part of every screening.

If Disney was going to price tickets higher for this release, it would have made sense to make sure people knew about it so they could buy those tickets and potentially boost the opening weekend box office. The Walt Disney Company says that 52% of Avengers Endgame: Encore‘s opening weekend box office came from Infinity Vision Screens. That number might have been higher if audiences knew they needed to see it in a premium format to get the full experience.

At the end of the day, while Disney can choose to release the extra footage for Avengers: Doomsday in whatever format they want, the marketing for Endgame: Encore could have, and should have, been clearer. Otherwise, people feel they weren’t given the experience they paid for, which is frustrating. Hopefully, this doesn’t create a new trend where MCU post-credit scenes are locked behind premium-format screens only. Given that Disney removed the free FastPass system at the parks and now makes guests pay extra to get on rides faster, that wouldn’t be surprising.
