KANYE West has issued a new and extensive apology for years of erratic behavior and antisemitic rants that have cost him countless fans and professional acclaim.
The apology ran as a full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal on Monday and linked his outbursts to mental health diagnoses and a car accident he suffered in 2002.
“Twenty-five years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain,” he explained.
He went on, “At the time, the focus was on the visible damage—the fracture, the swelling, and the immediate physical trauma.
“The deeper injury, the one inside my skull, went unnoticed.”
In 2023, Ye said, “I’m not bi polar. I have signs of autism from my car accident.”
The ad reveals that Ye now believes the diagnosis of bipolar disorder, despite having not believed it previously.
His new statement explains, “Bipolar disorder comes with its own defense system. Denial.
“When you’re manic, you don’t think you’re sick.
“You think everyone else is overreacting. You feel like you’re seeing the world more clearly than ever, when in reality you’re losing your grip entirely.”
He then described the symptoms of bipolar disorder, noting how the condition can feel “persuasive”.
“You feel powerful, certain, unstoppable,” he went on.
“The idea that you might need help is almost impossible to accept.”
He later admitted, “I lost touch with reality.”
Ye continued, “Things got worse the longer I ignored the problem.
“I said and did things I deeply regret. Some of the people I love the most, I treated the worst.”
Kanye West’s recent controversies
Kanye West has faced a number of controversies in recent years.
In November 2022, a former Yeezy staffer alleged Kanye showed them intimate photos of his ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
Staffers also claimed he played pornography for them during meetings and talked about porn.
In October 2023, Adidas dropped the rapper as various social media sites barred him from their platforms for making anti-semitic comments online, in interviews, and with his clothing.
Amid pleas from fans and threats of major boycotts, Adidas announced its decision to terminate his contract.
Gap and Balenciaga followed suit.
The rapper is now being sued by his ex-assistant, accusing him of sexual harassment and wrongful termination.
Kanye has said in the past that he suffers from a porn addiction, making the comments in an online rant that has since been deleted.
He then directly addressed the people he treated “the worst” saying, “You endured fear, confusion, humiliation, and the exhaustion of trying to have someone who was, at times, unrecognizable.
“Looking back, I became detached from my true self.”
In his statement, Kanye also issues apologies to multiple communities.
He explained how while in his “fractured state” he “gravitated toward the most destructive symbol I could find, the swastika, and even sold T-shirts bearing it.”
Ye then said how with his bipolar type-1 diagnosis, there are many “disconnected moments” that he “cannot recall.”
Kanye added, “I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change.
“It does not excuse what I did though.
“I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.”
Ye went on, “To the black community – which held me down through all of the highs and lows and the darkest of times.
“The black community is, unquestionably, the foundation of who I am.
“I am so sorry to have let you down. I love us.”
In February 2025, Kanye caused a stir when he went on several vile rants on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, mocking domestic violence and praising Adolf Hitler.
The controversial rapper also repeatedly called for music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs to be freed from jail.
Kanye said “IM A NAZI” and “I LOVE HITLER” in his online rant, later saying: “Hitler was sooooo fresh.”
He later penned: “I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE F*** ANTI SEMETIC MEANS.”
In 2022, Kanye was widely condemned for similar comments which were described as “hateful” and “inexcusable”.
He was dropped by brands including GAP and Adidas over the anti-Semitic comments.
